Parenting Skills with Focus on Puberty Workshop 2024

The one-day parenting skills workshop in Nuwakot was thoughtfully designed for parents of our scholarship recipients—many of whom are menial workers with limited income, education, and time for family involvement. Delivered in a simple and respectful manner, the session aimed to bridge the gap between traditional perspectives and the realities of raising adolescents. The workshop used visual aids, such as stick figures and basic drawings on a whiteboard, to represent the growth and changes children undergo during puberty. This made the content more accessible, especially for those with low literacy levels. The session focused on helping parents understand the emotional and behavioral shifts that come with puberty, including fluctuating moods and academic challenges.
In addition, the workshop addressed the impact of menstruation on girls and highlighted the importance of a supportive role from both mothers and fathers. Many parents shared their struggles, including feeling unequipped to help with schoolwork, and expressed a desire to support their children better. Through practical tools and relatable guidance, the session provided parents with age-appropriate communication strategies, discipline techniques, and a deeper understanding of their children’s needs. It encouraged open dialogue, empathy, and more effective, caring parenting approaches, ultimately helping parents feel more empowered to nurture their children’s growth and development.
